Configuring Windows 2000 for STEP-UP

Creating a Dialup Connection Icon
Dialup to the campus network requires the use of a modem and a telephone line. Local and long-distance telephone charges may apply.

  1. Click Start - Settings - Network - Dial-up Connections.
  2. Double-click Make New Connection.
  3. Once the Network Connection Wizard appears click Next.
  4. Select "Dial-up to the Internet", then click Next.
  5. The Internet Connection Wizard will appear. Select "I want to set up my Connection manually..." and click Next.
  6. Select "I connect through a phone line and modem." Click Next.
  7. Enter the telephone number. On-campus users must enter 0029#9,761-7837. If you are off campus type 761-7837. To disable call waiting from off-campus type *70,761-7837.
  8. De-select "Use area-code and dialing rules." Click Next.
  9. Enter your UCS user name and password. Click Next.
  10. Locate Internet Mail Acct. and select No. Click Next.
  11. Click Finish.
Connecting to STEP-UP
  1. Click Start - Settings - Network - Dial-up Connections.
  2. Double-click your new connection and click Dial.
  3. When you are ready to disconnect, locate the connection icon on the bottom right-hand corner of the screen near the clock. Double-click the icon and click Disconnect.
