Changing Passwords on the Web
UCS passwords may now be changed via the web. Go to https://www.ucs.louisiana.edu/cgi-bin/change_pass.pl.
Rules for changing passwords are provided. You must
type your current password in order to change it.
Changing Passwords with Open Webmail (https://webmail.louisiana.edu/)
UCS Passwords may be changed via the "Change Password" feature
within Open
Webmail. After logging into Open Webmail,
select the icon that displays "User Preferences". Select
the icon that displays "Change Password". Type the
old or current password in the box labeled "Old Password".
Type the new password in the box labeled "New Password".
Re-type the new password in the box labeled "Confirm
New Password". NOTE: The new password must conform
to the rules for changing passwords located at the top of
this page. Click "Change Password" to continue.
Next, scroll down to the bottom of the User Preferences Page
and click Save.

Rules for Changing Passwords
- The new password must be at least six characters in length.
- One numeric or special character must be included within
the first six characters.
- At least two alphabetic characters must be included within
the first six characters.
- The new password must differ from the old one by at least
three characters.
- Each password must differ from the user's login name and
any reverse or circular shift of that login name.
Changing Passwords through a Microsoft Windows
Telnet Session
To establish a telnet connection, click Start from
the task bar and select Run. Enter telnet d##.ucs.louisiana.edu
-- replace ## with a number between 1 and 116 (UCS workstation
hostname). Click OK to continue. Enter your UCS CLID
(username) and current password at the Login:
and Password: prompts.
- Locate the command prompt (i.e. dxx.ucs.louisiana.edu%)
- Type passwd at the command prompt.
- Type your current password.
- Type a new password (refer to the password rules listed
above).
- Re-enter the new password. If the password change was
successful, the messages "NIS+ password information
changed for abc1234" and "NIS+ credential
information changed for abc1234" will be displayed.
Changing Passwords through a UCS Workstation
- Right-click on the Desktop, select Hosts,
select Terminal Console.
- Type passwd at the command prompt.
- Type your current password.
- Type a new password (refer to the password rules listed
above).
- Re-enter the new password. If the password change was
successful, the messages "NIS+ password information
changed for abc1234" and "NIS+ credential
information changed for abc1234" will be displayed.
