Video & Web Conferencing

Service Description

All video conferencing resources are scheduled through the IMN Media Services office, including classes for credit and non-credit, meetings, and other university-related activities. Three classroom facilities are available for University personnel; a fourth facility is available for public rental.

The video conferencing rooms, also called compressed video rooms, are used throughout the year by various departments to facilitate distance learning classes.  Media Services provides a Conference Technician to facilitate any type of conference needed by the client.

The technology included in the conferencing rooms allow them to be used for several different purposes:

  • traditional meeting rooms
  • multimedia presentation rooms
  • web conferencing (web seminars) rooms
  • video conferencing rooms
  • audio conferencing rooms

University academic pursuits always have precedence when it comes to scheduling the conferencing rooms.

UL – Lafayette has been the recipient of Access Grid equipment from the Louisiana Board of Regents. Access Grid is an ensemble of resources including multimedia large-format displays, presentation and interactive environments, and interfaces to Grid middleware and to visualization environments. These resources support group-to-group interactions across the Grid.

UL – Lafayette was able to participate in a series of SuperComputing seminars originating from the University of Oklahoma main campus via the Access Grid. The classes took place over an eight-week period with students and faculty from around the country coming together with the express purpose of learning more about SuperComputing.

Additionally, Media Services has provided a medium through which University departments can participate in seminars via the web, saving thousands of dollars in travel and lodging fees.
