What is Open WebMail?
Open WebMail is a web-based email application installed
on UCS that allows you to access email that is currently on
the University's mail server. Open WebMail can be accessed
via any computer with a connection to the Internet and a current
web browser. Open WebMail is supported by Computing
Support Services.
Open WebMail is designed to read email messages that
currently reside on the mail server. Each user is allotted
a certain amount of disk space on the mail server for messages.
Users must manage their email accordingly. Read messages must
be deleted or moved to make room for new messages. In addition,
users that choose to use Open WebMail must maintain
their disk quota on UCS. Users that exceed their UCS disk
quota may not be permitted to login to Open WebMail.
Where do I get an email account?
UCS accounts are activated at the Help Desk (Stephens Hall,
Room 201). You must present a photo ID before your account
may be activated. Activation of a UCS account is needed to

Dialup Internet Connections (STEP-UP), and other academic
computing resources.

What quota errors might occur using Open WebMail?
When using Open WebMail, you have a variety of different folders
which you may store your email (Inbox, Saved, Sent, Trash,
etc). The Inbox folder corresponds to your mail quota; there
is a 10 megabyte limit for Students, and 20 megabyte limit
for Faculty/Staff. If you exceed your mail quota limit (you
wil not be able to receive any new email) you must remove
some email from your 'Inbox'. The other folders store your
email on your UCS home directory. Students and Faculty/Staff
each have a 50 megabyte limit on their home directories.
