Configuring Mac OS X Mail

  1. Double Click the Macintosh HD icon on your desktop.
  2. Click Applications and then double click Mail.

  3. Click Mail on the task bar and then click Preferences.

  4. Click Add Account.

  5. In Account Type select POP and type pop.louisiana.edu for Incoming Mail Server. Make sure the Outgoing Mail Server is mailer.louisiana.edu. Type the appropriate information in all other fields and click OK.

NOTE: Email applications such as Netscape Mail, Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, etc. have additional settings that will assist you in automatically downloading new email to your PC. This is referred to as POP interval time. Always avoid setting POP Intervals for less than 30 minutes. Automatically checking email every few minutes places a severe strain on the University's mail server. Please avoid frequent POP intervals.
