About UCS
UCS is the University's academic computing system. The system
consists of a Sun Client-Server Computing Facility where users
may use a variety of applications in a UNIX environment. UCS
accounts must be activated before users can access UCS. Accounts
are activated at the Help Desk.
85 Sun Workstations, divided into two UCS computing
facilities are available for use. The main UCS Computing
Facility is located in the Conference Center Solarium (CONF
152). An
additional computing facility is located in Stephens Memorial
Hall, Room 109. Printout distribution areas are located
in
both facilities.
Why use UCS?
UCS is a reliable computing environment where account users
may access University Email accounts, statistical analysis
applications, programming compilers, word processing applications,
and the world wide web. Additionally, UCS account users have
allocated storage space for files. Support for UCS applications
is provided by Computing Support Services. Users requesting
assistance may contact the Help Desk (Stephens Hall, Room
201; helpdesk@louisiana.edu;
482-5516) for support.
Applications Available on UCS
Popular applications available on UCS include: Mozilla,
SAS, SPSS, various programming compilers, and
other applications.
